Our Student Services team works collaboratively to support the diverse academic, communication, social-emotional, and developmental needs of students. Services are provided through both in BCSD staff and contracted professionals, ensuring a comprehensive and coordinated approach to student support.
Learning Support Services
Learning Support Teacher provides additional support for students who require accommodations, adaptations, or individualized programming to support their learning and success. LST work collaboratively with teachers, students, families, and other specialists to support students’ academic, communication, and social-emotional development.
Support may include:
- Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Classroom accommodations and adaptations
- Targeted support in literacy, numeracy, and other subject areas
- Support with communication in ASL and English
- Study skills, organization, and learning strategies
- Coordination with educational assistants
Students receiving LSS support benefit from:
- Personalized learning goals and strategies
- Ongoing monitoring of progress
- A team-based approach to supporting their needs
- Access to resources tailored to their strengths

Speech-Language Pathology (SLP)
Speech-Language Pathologist supports students in addressing and developing communication skills in English and ASL for both social and academic purposes.
Services may include:
- Supporting expressive and receptive language development
- Enhancing communication strategies and access
- Supporting literacy development (reading and writing)
- Collaborating with teachers and educational staff to develop and integrate communication goals into classroom learning
- Working with students on individualized communication goals as outlined in their IEPs
- Liaising with community agencies
Based on goals and suitability, our service delivery model consists of the following: consult, individualized, small groups, and coordinated classroom push in with the classroom teacher and/or Deaf ASL specialists.
Youth Care Child Worker
Youth Care Child Worker (YCCW) provides social-emotional and behavioural support to students, helping to create a safe, inclusive, and supportive school environment.
Their role includes:
- Supporting students with emotional regulation and overall well-being
- Assisting students in developing social skills and positive peer relationships
- Providing guidance and support during challenging situations
- Promoting independence, resilience, and life skills development
- Collaborating with school staff, families, and multidisciplinary teams to support student success
- Supporting Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) instruction in collaboration with teachers
- Providing transportation training to build independent living skills
- Supporting newcomer and immigrant students with school transitions and integration
Intervenor
Intervenor services support students who are Deafblind or who require specialized one-to-one support to access communication, learning, and their environment. Intervenors work closely with students to ensure meaningful participation in school and daily activities. Services may include:
- Providing individualized, hands-on support for communication access
- Assisting with interpretation of environmental and visual information
- Supporting concept development and understanding of experiences
- Facilitating access to instructional materials and classroom activities
- Supporting independence, orientation, and mobility within the school environment
- Collaborating with teachers, families, and other support staff to meet student needs
Interpreting Services
Interpreting Services Interpreting services support equitable communication access for Deaf and hard-of-hearing students, staff, families, and the broader school community. Services may include:
- ASL–English interpreting in classrooms and during school activities Interpreting for meetings, events, and school-related communications
- Collaboration with teachers and staff to support effective communication access
- Facilitation of equitable participation in academic and extracurricular settings
Educational Assistant (EA)
Educational Assistants support students in accessing learning and participating fully in school activities. Working in collaboration with teachers and other professionals, EA support may include:
- Supporting students with classroom learning and activities
- Assisting with communication access as needed
- Providing individualized support based on student goals and needs
- Supporting independence, social interaction, and engagement
- Assisting with use of classroom materials and learning tools
Collaborating with teachers, interpreters, and other support staff.
Indigenous Student Support
An Indigenous Support Worker visits the school weekly to support Indigenous students and families. Support focuses on building relationships, strengthening cultural identity, and supporting student wellbeing and success at school.
The role also helps connect students and families with school-based supports and community resources, and supports communication between the school, families, and Indigenous services as needed.
